STEM for Sustainability is an innovative education and training program offered by Amideast Morocco through sponsorship from Boeing. The program draws a clear connection between Morocco’s current generation of 18 - 25 year olds, and their ability to shape their future in ways that are sustainable and address current environmental challenges. Morocco is on the front lines of climate change and today’s youth need to understand the realities and potential solutions.
Amideast will carefully select two cohorts of 40 participants to develop a deeper awareness of environmental issues and learn new strategies to address these challenges. The overall goal of this 100-hour training program is to equip participants with 21st-century knowledge and skills that lead to positive change in their communities.
STEM skills are fundamental for all youth regardless of their educational background or career goals. Through context-specific STEM skills, participants will learn to be analytical, break down complex ideas, and present those complex ideas in a simple way. STEM for Sustainability also aims to raise youth awareness, enhance environmental appreciation, change behavior, and encourage participants to take tangible actions that can improve their local environment.
A key partner in the delivery of the technical training and field trips is the Association of Teachers of Life and Earth Sciences of Morocco (AESVT). AESVT will focus on three environmental themes: 1) waste management and recycling; 2) the science of water resources; and 3) the management of green spaces to protect biodiversity.
This 2024 edition of STEM for Sustainability follows a success pilot program in 2023 which was also sponsored by Boeing. This year’s participants will eventually join 48 graduates from 2023 in this unique program that blends an interdisciplinary approach with experiential learning, leading to the practical application of new skills, information and knowledge.
