Enhancing Institutional Capacity

In 2022, we strengthened institutional capacity in Egypt and Yemen.

• Our administration of the U.S.-Egypt Higher Education Initiative (HEI) Public University Scholarships Program enabled us to advance Egypt’s ability to provide equitable access to higher education by ensuring that nearly 50 persons with disabilities received scholarships to pursue their undergraduate studies in academic excellence programs at Egyptian universities, and by working with Egypt’s Ministry of Education and 20 Egyptian public universities to establish campus-based student disability centers at these institutions.
• Through a series of mini-grants, training, and mentoring, we enhanced the capacity of 20 Yemeni civil society organizations and other community entities to implement local peace and reconciliation initiatives.
