“The Institute's highest honor Is the newly struck Century Medal marking the second century of IIE’s service, and it is my very great pleasure on behalf of the IIE board directors to present it to you,” IIE's CEO, Dr. Allan Goodman, said as he presented the medal at a special ceremony at IIE’s headquarters on May 4.
Founded in 1919, IIE is the foremost U.S. institution committed to advancing academic and cultural exchange to build a more peaceful world. Reflecting on IIE’s role as a “pioneer” in the field international education and exchanges, Amb. Kattouf noted, “IIE led the way, and every other organization including Amideast exists because of IIE. So thank you, Dr. Goodman and IIE, for this honor, which I really accept on behalf of Amideast and my colleagues. It’s truly a humbling honor to receive this award and to have worked for all these years with our partners and with my colleagues, certainly not least those who are in our field offices in the Middle East and North Africa.”
Ambassador Kattouf’s service was also recognized by Marianne Craven, Managing Director of Academic Programs at the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational Cultural Affairs: “I'm really delighted to have this opportunity on behalf of the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs at the State Department to express our congratulations to Ambassador Kattouf on the awarding of the IIE Century Medal and to thank him for his leadership in supporting international education and understanding especially between the United States and the Middle East, North Africa region and for all his contributions to the exchange community.”
