Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt—At the UN Climate Change Conference COP27 held in Sharm El Sheikh, Amideast and Boeing announced an expanded partnership in 2022-2023 to support more Egyptian youth through STEM Education with a focus on sustainability. The agreement builds on success of the Amideast/Boeing STEM Center.

Kuljit Ghata-Aura,President Boeing, Middle East, Türkiye and Africa, and Shahinaz Ahmed, Amideast/Egypt Country Director, participated in the event.

The Amideast-Boeing expanded partnership will focus on STEM programs for sustainability in three main areas: 1) STEM programs in robotics, graphics, animation, 3D printing, programming, web development, and entrepreneurship development, 2) STEM entrepreneurship competition, and 3) STEM Program for Climate Sustainability.

In line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), STEM Education fosters creativity and empowers new generations to become critical thinkers and problem solvers who can address the global social, economic, environmental and health grand challenges. Through diverse program offerings by Amideast, the aim is to equip Egyptian youth with the essential knowledge and 21st Century skills that will help them to better respond to the changing needs of the global economy, contribute to the nation’s economic development and achieve environmental sustainability through innovative ideas that create impact.

“Sustainability is on top of the agenda worldwide and in all sectors of the economy. The global aviation industry has committed to net zero carbon emissions by 2050. This means that the Egyptian youth participating in Amideast-Boeing STEM programs today will define and build a sustainable aerospace and deliver on this commitment tomorrow. Our tasks are to empower young talents, equip them with knowledge on sustainability and climate change and associated skills and values, and be open to their innovative ideas that will make a difference,” said Kuljit Ghata-Aura, President of Boeing Middle East, Türkiye and Africa.

Boeing's grant will help Amideast to align STEM activities in Egypt with the company’s sustainability agenda and expand the program with an entrepreneurship competition with a focus on sustainability, as well as workshops and STEM talks on the topic and other in-country engagements.

“Through this renewed collaboration, Amideast is pleased to add to its portfolio of work supporting Egypt’s future generation to contribute to and compete at the global stage to find solutions for complex national, regional and global challenges. We believe the time is right to leverage Egypt’s commitment to climate change through expanded STEM education and training among youth,” said Shahinaz Ahmed, Country Director of Amideast/Egypt.
