Youth English Program

Since 2018, Amideast has upskilled 393 students from RAK through the Youth English Program (YEP)

The Youth English Program (YEP), funded by the U.S. Department of State, managed by Amideast and in collaboration with local partner Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi Foundation for Policy Research (AQF), provides English skills and activities to UAE national school students. We have concluded 5 cohorts of the program since 2018 reaching 365 students in total. Amideast is launching the program’s 6th edition introducing a career advising component.

Program Components

English Language Courses: The English language curriculum consists of everyday communication skills at progressively higher levels, intensive practice in the four skills: reading, listening, writing, and speaking. It also encourages students to broaden their awareness of practices and perspectives around the world, as well as in their own community.

Personal Development: In addition to the English language, special modules focused on developing skills such as leadership, team building, critical thinking, and problem-solving. Student self-assessment is integrated throughout the program.

Community Engagement: Extracurricular activities are held and include group leadership and team-building activities. Within both the English language courses and these activities, this is done through readings, discussions, guest speakers, virtual and in-person trips, events, and holiday celebrations.

Career Advising: The career advising and counseling component aims to provide students with guidance and support for making informed decisions about their futures. This component is designed to offer a balanced combination of group sessions for collective learning and individual sessions for personalized guidance.
