GRE® Test

Whether you want to go to graduate school, business school, law school, or are still exploring your options, the GRE® General Test can work for you. The GRE test is accepted by thousands of graduate level programs worldwide.

Some graduate programs will also ask you to take one or more GRE Subject Tests, available for the fields of mathematics, physics, and psychology.

Beginning in September 2023, the GRE General Test will be less than 2 hours long. The GRE Subject Tests will be administered in a computer-delivered format, and will take 2 hours and 50 minutes for the Mathematics Test and 2 hours for the Physics and Psychology Tests.

The GRE General test is administered at Amideast Ramallah PROMETRIC testing center.

When you register for a GRE® General Test, you will be required to provide identification (ID) information. You must enter your first and last name exactly as it appears on the primary ID document (excluding accents) that you plan to present at the test session. You have the option to include your middle initial, but it is not a requirement. You cannot use a supplemental ID to resolve name discrepancies.

You are responsible for bringing valid and acceptable ID when you report for your scheduled test appointment.  It is your responsibility to ensure that your ID documents are up-to-date and available on the day of your test. If you are concerned about a discrepancy, contact TSReturns@ets.org before you register.

You can take the GRE General Test once every 21 days, up to five times within any continuous rolling 12-month period (365 days). This applies even if you canceled your scores on a test taken previously.

General ID Document Requirements

With few exceptions, ID documents must meet all of the following requirements. Each ID document must:

  • be an original document; photocopied documents are not acceptable and documents cannot be presented on a cell phone or any other electronic device
  • be a government-issued national/state/province identity card that is recognized by the country in which you are a citizen or permanent resident
  • be valid; expired documents (bearing expiration dates that have passed) are not acceptable
  • bear your first and last name exactly (excluding accents) as it was when registering for the test
  • include a recent, recognizable photograph
  • include your signature (the name and signature on the ID document must match)
