Female participation in the economy of Jordan remains a missed opportunity, with women comprising only 14% of employment in the country. Female representation in faculties of science and engineering are lower still, with few women graduating and pursuing careers in engineering, technological development, computer science and more.
Amideast’s SPARK program, funded by the Boeing Company, seeks to introduce young Jordanian girls in grade 8 to the field of STEM-related skills development through the LEGO Education sets and curriculum. The program builds confidence, self-actualization and skills in innovation through design thinking, creative problem solving and teamwork using LEGO’s Simple and Powered Machines sets.
The program will impact 180 Jordanian girls across nine public schools in the Amman and Zarqa area in addition to providing training and development to school science teachers and materials LEGO sets to use in school classes.
