This online course will help you develop your English language skills through practice of four key skills — listening, speaking, reading, and writing — as well as through grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation exercises. You will join classmates in the exploration of contemporary topics within an interactive virtual classroom that provides many opportunities to practice real-world communication. Outside this virtual classroom, you will be expected to complete assignments that extend in-class learning, collaborate in online discussions, and use a variety of digital resources for further language practice with the guidance of the teacher.
Amideast Online classes require a desktop, laptop, or mobile device combined with a WIFI or minimum 3G network connection. Recommended browsers include:
In this course, students receive 20 hours of teacher-led instruction, with 18 hours of virtual class time to actively engage with others and practice the English language through current topics and real-world situations. The course includes an additional 2 hours outside of the virtual classroom to extend in-class learning with teacher support through such activities as participating in moderated discussion forums, scheduled chat sessions with the teacher, and independent and collaborative tasks outside of class.
Live Sessions: Learners meet online with their Amideast instructors in virtual classroom sessions, where they work with their classmates on communicative tasks, as well as receive peer and instructor feedback. A variety of online resources are used to develop students’ English language proficiency through engaging content. These sessions are recorded for easy access afterwards.
Independent Work: Learners are required to prepare for their online classes by doing some tasks on their own time. They are provided with online materials (digital books, audio materials, and supplementary resources) to support their learning. Registered students get assistance from their teachers during virtual office hours, as well as customer service support to guide them in accessing materials and logging on to their virtual classrooms. Learners also take quizzes and post assignments online.
Course days and times will be confirmed once a pre-registration form is completed and submitted, per the published schedule below. An online English language placement test will then be administered. All class materials, including online resources, are provided to students. Class size is limited to a maximum of 18 students.
