Syria
AMIDEAST has been serving
the people of Syria for nearly 40 years. The office has
helped thousands of Syrian students research and apply to
U.S. colleges and universities, take the standardized admissions
exams required for admissions, and prepare for living and
studying in the United States. We have administered the
Fulbright Foreign Student Program in Syria since 1982, through
which more than 60 grantees have pursued graduate education
in the United States.
Each
year, nearly 10,000 individuals benefit from AMIDEAST Syria's
educational advising and testing services and our English
language course offerings. Our advising center staff provides
expert guidance on identifying and applying to appropriate
U.S. institutions. Our library on U.S. education -the most
extensive such resource in Syria-offers computer facilities,
internet access, and an extensive collection of college
catalogues. AMIDEAST Syria administers all of the major
standardized exams required by U.S. colleges and universities,
including the TOEFL®, SAT®, GMAT® and GRE®.
In addition, we administer the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam
on a weekly basis.
 Demand for AMIDEAST's specialized English language classes
for children between the ages of seven and sixteen is growing
rapidly. We focus on increasing students' ability to communicate
in English in their everyday activities. Classes are small
and are taught by native speakers of English. We also offer
prep classes for some of the standardized examinations required
by U.S. universities.
For nonnative speakers of Arabic, AMIDEAST offers courses
in colloquial Arabic. The office also provides a variety
of services that support U.S. institutions seeking to conduct
study abroad programs in Syria, including housing arrangements,
program development, language study, and educational excursions.
